On Saturday, August 19th, several class of 1976 alumni gathered at the Fredericksburg Winery to commence a day-long adventure of fellowship and wine-tasting as part of the Harvest Wine Trail. Those in attendance were: Fernie Gomez, Sergio Lopez, Olga Guerra Munroe, Emilia Rodriguez Yanes, Blanca Ruiz Saunders, Mary Rios, Chriselda Caraveo and friend, Diane Palomo.
Several of us gals arrived at Emilia's house the night before, and had a great dinner at a local pizzeria. Then we went on to meet up with Fernie, Rodolfo Mack, Griselda Blancarte and friend Christi at Cool River to enjoy a night of laughter and dancing.
We got an early start on Saturday, and after tasting and purchasing wine at our first stop, we enjoyed lunch at the Biergarten on Main Street. Before leaving for our 2nd winery, Fernie pulled out his crystal wine glasses and we enjoyed a glass of wine in the parking lot. We proceeded to visit three other wineries, and spent alot of our time at the Becker Winery, where we took a tour of their wine cellar and met Mr. Becker (the owner and Olga's physician in San Antonio!).
After a long and fun-filled day, us gals went back to Emilia's house to rest up and get ready for "round 2". After a late night dinner at a local eatery, we went to the Four Seasons to enjoy martinis and piano music before calling it a night.
The following weekend we reconvened on the River Walk in San Antonio to celebrate the arrival of Karen (Pimentelli) Shanmugam who was visiting from San Francisco. Danny Chavez and galpal Jennifer, as well as Anna and Zurdo Menchaca joined us. We had a great dinner at the Little Rhein Steakhouse, then spent time at Polly Ester's, a local hangout. Wanting a change of scenery we then hopped into a taxi and went to Azucar, a salsa dance club. Here is where Karen, Olga and Chris showed off their salsa moves! That Karen really knows how to dance!
It was a wonderful two weekends spent among good friends, and just two of several "outings" we intend to plan and enjoy as a group. Stay tuned for more outings in the next few months. Here's hoping that more can join us!
